  • Preparing for a Joy-filled Marriage
    Preparing for a Joy-filled Marriage
    • Congratulations on your engagement!  We are honored to accompany you and guide you as you prepare for the holy and sacred covenant of marriage!

Preparing for marriage can be exciting, but at the same time, can be frustrating and exhausting.  We will be here for you every step of the way!
To begin the process for marriage preparation, follow these steps:

      1) Read the Sections Below

      2) Contact our Marriage Preparation Coordinator to have an initial meeting regarding your preparation for marriage.

Marriage Preparation Coordinator: Deacon Bob Seymour | [email protected] | 920-733-0575 ext. 327

The Marriage Preparation process should begin at least 6-8 months in advance of the wedding date.

    • "In your journey towards marriage, always trust in God’s providence, however limited your means, since “at times, difficulties can bring out resources we did not even think we had”. Do not hesitate to rely on your families and friends, on the ecclesial community, on your parish, to help you prepare for marriage and family life by learning from those who have already advanced along the path on which you are now setting out."

      ~His Holiness Pope Francis
Letter to Married Couples for the "Amoris Laetitia Family" Year, 2021-2022

  • Prerequisites to Begin the Marriage Preparation Process

    • Who can be married at St. Pius X?
      • A baptized man and woman, without any impediments to marriage, may seek to be married. Marriage in the Catholic Church requires full consent of both parties, and preparation classes through the Church.

Imprediments are situations or conditions, unless corrected or resolved, in which makes it impossible for a marriage to take place.  One example is if one of the individuals is not of the canonical age to get married.  Another example of an imprediment is if one of the individuals is already in another marriage.

  • Marriage Preparation Process

    • How do we prepare for Marriage?
      • The first step is to discern and pray that God has called you to the vocation of marriage.... Our world needs good, holy marriages that live our heroic virtue, hence the preparation process is more than planning the ceremony... it is preparing for a calling from God!

The marriage preparation experience needs to start at least 6-8 months prior to the wedding day.

        • Initial session - review the entire process and begin completing the necessary forms

        • Meet with Priest or Deacon to discuss theology of marriage and answer any questions you may have.

        • Premarital Inventory - this is a means for allowing the couple, with assistance of the marriage preparation minister(s), to explore and strengthen their relationship wiht each other before marriage. (this may take 2-3 sessions)

        • Attend a Marriage Preparation Program lead by the Green Bay Diocese... this program helps engaged couples eplore adn determine the strengths adn weaknesses of their relationship in terms of their future life together.

        • Further instruction on Fertility Based Methods also known as Natural Family Planning (NFP) to help the couple understand and anwser any questions on the Church's teaching regarding congugal love and responsible parenting.

        • Liturgical planning and follow-up with priest or deacon witnessing the Sacrament of Marriage in the Catholic Church.

        • Rehearsal - Priest or Deacon will lead this session (typically the day before the wedding day)

        • Wedding Day ----- Congratulations!!!

        • Post-Wedding Follow-up - this is a session to meet with the priest or deacon around six months after the wedding day.  This is a time to deal with expectations, adjustments and building strengths.

    • Can we do our marriage preparation at another parish or diocese but get married at St. Pius X Church?
      • Yes!  As long as your wedding date is open on our calendar and that we are aware that you are preparing for marriage in another Catholic parish or diocese, you may be married at St. Pius X Church.  You will also need permission from the pastor of the parish in which you are recieving preparation and the pastor of St. Pius X Parish.

    • Can we do our marriage preparation at St. Pius X but get married at another Catholic church?
      • Yes, it is possible.  You will need permission from the pastor of St. Pius X and the pastor of the Catholic church in which you will have your wedding.

    • When should we begin the marriage preparation process?
      • The marriage preparation process should begin as soon as you get engaged and at least 6 months in advance of the wedding date.

  • Reserving the Church

    • How can I reserve the church for a wedding?
      • You can call the parish office at 920-733-0575 to see if your proseptecive wedding date is open on the church calendar.  If you are doing your wedding preparation at another Catholic parish, explain that you are doing marriage preparation at a different parish/diocese and would like to have the wedding take place at St. Pius X.

    • Can a non-Catholic marriage ceremony take place in the church?
      • In order for a marriage to take place at St. Pius X Church, at least one of the members must be a practicing Catholic.

    • How far in advance should I reserve the church for a wedding?
      • Couples wishing to reserve the church for a wedding should do so soon after they get engaged and at least 6 months before their prosepctive wedding date.  The initial meeting with a priest or deacon needs to take place prior to reserving the church for a particular date.

  • Planning the Ceremony

    • Can I get married at a non-Catholic church?
      • A Catholic must receive permission from the bishop to get married at a non-Catholic church.

    • Can I have an outdoor wedding?
    • What is the difference between a Catholic and a non-Catholic wedding?
      • A Catholic marriage (sacramental marriage) is where a man and a woman make a convenant (not a contract) with each other until one of the two people pass on to eternal life.  A convenant is a committment for life and can not be reversered or removed, unlike a contract that can be changed, broke or disreguarded.

A Catholic marriage is an irrevocable consent of both spouses, by which they freely give themselves to each other and accept each other.  This singular union of a man and a woman requires, and the good of the children demands, the complete fidelity of the spouses and the indissoluble unity of the bond.

    • How do we plan the ceremony if one of us is not a practicing Catholic?
      • This can be discussed with the priest or deacon.  The couple can choose to have a Mass and wedding ceremony or just the wedding ceremony.
